Whoa, Wait…Trot! – Original Watercolor
This painting was inspired by the CDI jog at Lamplight Equestrian show grounds. A CDI (Concourse Dressage International) competition requires that all horses competing must participate in a “jog” in front of a team of judges to show that they are fit to compete at the international horse show. Some horses especially young ones get quite exited in this atmosphere. During the jog, the horse must walk, and then turn around an object and trot back towards the judges. This horse in the painting wanted to run back (towards the other horses waiting in line) before he was allowed, so his handler would talk to him saying Whoa, Wait…. until the right moment when he should TROT! The horse, showing exuberance and anticipation because he is supposed to trot at some point, just can’t wait, and has almost all of his feet off the ground. It is quite an exiting event to see all the new prospects at the competition together during the jog.
